The sensitivity and strength of the trees, the effort and momentum of the branches, of the roots. The earth and sky they grew up in, the adventurous life they lived; this is the material of the woods that I work with, the material into which the tree transforms the light, the breath of the world.

Trees have their own <capacity for expression and, so to speak, a soul>. Wood is capable of immense grace and wonderful dances, of surprising twists and weaves. And it is also capable to preserve the signs that distinguish its essence and those that tell its story.

It can be a dense tangle of curves or an explosion of forks. It can be the miracle of a branch that separates and then joins the one from which it started. Whether it is a compact colour, a feast of nuances, a particularly rich texture – the shape of a tree is imagination itself. The imagination that becomes reality.

Epic is the feat of the plant that has to flee from the shadow of the wood in which it was born, which puts all its strength and intelligence into play to overcome obstacles and difficulties of all sorts. Lyrical is the grace of its step and its leaps, the elegance of its contortions and extensions, the lightness of the flights and dances in which it soars. A piece of wood is always a poem and a novel, the gift of a landscape, a map, perhaps a mirror. A wood is in any case a world where you can travel, even between the valleys and the ridges of your fingertips.

The background color on which I have chosen to present my works is black. It is black to indicate the dark and compact depth that the root knows how to penetrate. Black, on the other hand, understood as the sum of all colors, I believe can well say of the root the variety of elements that it knows how to perceive and process, its prodigious ability to see in the dark.

These woods are made of dead matter, yet to my eyes and my fingers they never stop suggesting movements and heartbeats that are still possible. Also for this reason I think that black is the most suitable stage for their spectacular energy. And that it is the most suitable color to make those woods shine like stars in the night.

Thus naked and exposed, in that light without shadows or considerations, some may appear to have fallen, or suspended, but they are standing; sometimes in minimal balance, but standing and moving, still. So abstract from any context instead I wanted them to stand out in all their beauty, the one I saw when everything around them vanished to pay homage to her.
